A recent survey has shown that in India there is a shortfall of qualified faculty at the higher academic level. PhD is the minimum qualification required for faculty who teach post graduate and graduate courses. PhD implies Doctor of Philosophy and does not pertain only to the subject of Philosophy but all other subjects like natural sciences, social sciences, medicine, law etc. Those who hold a PhD degree can establish their authority over a particular subject; they become eligible to teach higher academic courses and also to pursue higher research programs. Research generates knowledge to illuminate the path of mankind and is as such beneficial to institutes, organizations, industries and sectors and to the society at large. During a PhD program scholars learn to make original contributions to knowledge in their chosen areas of specialization through research, at the end of the program they are required to submit a thesis which is a report on an original concept supported by secondary and primary data and its analysis. The journey of an academician or researcher does not end with the completion of PhD program but in fact starts here; he/she needs to continuously make contributions to knowledge through research papers published in journals and other higher academic publications.
